The farm, located in the country of Chiaramonte Gulfi, area known for the good quality of oil, was built after the second world war. It belongs to the sicilian tradition of “producing the oil at home” from the olive trees of the same family. Thanks to the passion for the field, Mr Iacono has thought the idea to take to all tables a genuine and freshly pressed product and its harvest is hand made with the “Tonda iblea” olive (at 100%) also known as “citrale”.
The farm is about 10 hectares and situated in an hill territory, between 300 and 400 metres from the sea level. There are several types of cultivation: plums, prunes, pears, pomegranates and olives.
The heart of the farm is the cultivation of olive trees, with about 800 centuries-old trees of new establishment, mainly the “Tonda Iblea” quality and a few old trees of “Biancolilla” and “Verdese”.
The name “Suoru Maria” was born to express the contact with the field and the traditions, in other words, it came from the nickname of the family, used by different generations of agricultural workers which lived in the surrounding countries.
